Professors Gregory Prastacos
and Kostas Zografos have received honorary medals from INFORMS for significant
contributions to Operation Research
The
Institute for Operations Research and Management Science, INFORMS, in their
recent conference, in Baltimore, USA, awarded honorary medals for significant
contributions to Operations Research, to AUEB faculty members Gregory Prastacos
and Kostas Zografos, both Professors at AUEB's Department of Management Science
and Technology.
The
award ceremony, which took place in the recent INFORMS Practice Group
conference, in Baltimore, USA, with more than 600 INFORMS participants, had as
an objective to celebrate excellence in Operations Research. Medals were
awarded to a number of faculty from all over the world, mainly past winners or
finalists of the famous Edelman prize. Professor Prastacos has been a winner
(1979) of the Edelman Award for his work on perishable inventory and its
implementation in blood management. Professor Zografos has been a finalist
(2005) of the same award, for his work on scheduling and its implementation in
the Olympics 2004 organisation, and also a winner of the President’s medal from
the British OR Society.
